Hannah Cornell, Editor-in-Chief
Hannah Cornell (she/her) is a 23-year-old poet and fiction writer who calls the mountains of Pennsylvania and the suburbs of D.C. home. She is from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania and attended Shippensburg University for her BA in English with a Concentration in Creative and Professional Writing and minors in History and Women’s and Gender Studies. She dabbles in many genres, but finds much of her inspiration in the natural world, myth, feminism, family, and memory. She is a current second-year student in American University's MFA in Creative Writing program and is an adjunct for the Writing Studies Department at AU. This is her second year as Editor-in-Chief of Café MFA.
Ashley Werner, Associate Editor
Ashley Lyn Werner (she/they) is a poet and fiction novelist; born and raised in Severn, MD, and attended Catholic school from K-12. She went on to get her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing at Roanoke College in Salem, VA in 2022. At Roanoke, Ashley also studied Secondary Education, World Religions, and Pre-Modern Arts and Culture. Now, she is a second year MFA Creative Writing student at AU. Ashley's thesis will be a fiction novel about found family of refugees, but she also has a passion for writing poetry. She loves reading speculative fiction and romance. Ashley lives in MD with her fiancé and their two cats, Stormy and Hurricane. This is her second year as Associate Editor of Café MFA.
Angela Alvarez, PR Chair
Angela Alvarez (she/her) is a first year student in the MFA program at American. She is from Orlando, Florida but spent the past six years in North Carolina. She went to Wake Forest University for her undergraduate degree where she majored in English and minored in secondary education. After graduating, she worked as a high school English teacher in Charlotte North Carolina for two years. She enjoys writing in a variety of genres but her favorite is any kind of fiction. She has loved getting to know the AU community so far and is excited to see what else it has in store for her. This is her first year as PR Chair of Café MFA and she is the first-ever PR Chair for the blog.
