Sundry

PUBLISHED IN FOLIO 2025: VOL. 40.

Everything has an inner life:
the leaf twisting within wind;
the ant pacing sidewalk; the barista
burning your latte. To despair, they all curl
inside grayness. They all lust, hot-white, after
something. Even my dreams

contain dreams, iridescent
puddles that become many
when fractured by foot—tadpoles
wriggling through mud clouds, their eyes,
miniature black holes, searching. Alive
and searching.
