Daybreak
just before it has broken.
Not yet eye-piercing.
Still containing a drop of unspilt
night. Cleansed by the breath
and swoop of star-prone creatures,
their black perfume.
Nightfall
just before it has fallen.
Late-day rises up to catch it,
pulls it down, gently lays it
across the field which still holds
the warmth of bodies, the scent
of worms, leaves, and loam.
