Driving the Point Home

PUBLISHED IN FOLIO 2025: VOL. 40.

The ordinary became softer
more pink in the clouds
wider open spaces of rolling green

the farther we drove out
of the hard-edged hollering city

my breathing slowed down
in the back seat
of my father's old car

I started seeing myself
through the window

I could become part of this

I could find my place as a dot
in this Seurat landscape
where complimentary colors
enhance each other's depth

where I wouldn't have to make
a big impression on anyone
all by myself
